The World Heritage Committee (UNESCO) meets once a year and is made up of representatives from 21 of the Convention’s States Parties, who are elected by their respective General Assemblies. The Committee adopted its Rules of Procedure for the World Heritage Committee at its first meeting. The Committee is in charge of implementing the World Heritage Convention, defining the World Heritage Fund’s use, and allocating financial assistance to States Parties who request it. It makes the final decision on whether or not a property should be added to the World Heritage List. It examines reports on the state of conservation of inscribed properties and requests that States Parties intervene when properties are not properly managed. It also decides whether properties should be added to or removed from the List of World Heritage in Danger.
