Welcome to the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee! The committee is concerned with issues of international importance concerning security and demilitarization in all countries and regions, as well as ensuring the safety of citizens all around the world.

This year, DISEC will be tasked with addressing two critical committee-relevant thematic questions. These challenges are meant to be debated with distinguished representatives of member states in order to rethink the modern world and how the international community can work together to ensure state sovereignty and self-determination. Delegates are asked to consider the role that electoral conflict and interference play in the functioning of democratic institutions, as well as the legislative backbone of every single nation. With the rise of the digital age and cyber-attacks, resolutions will need to provide a comprehensive approach to ensure that citizens can maintain their faith in the institutions that are supposed to serve as pillars of support and security. Furthermore, the role of fragile states in disarmament and international security issues, as well as the extent to which United Nations member countries ought to be considered by esteemed delegates.
