UN Security Council (UNSC)

The United Nations Security Council is a special committee that aims to ensure international peace and security. It encourages disputants to settle disagreement through peaceful means. It is considered the binding organ of the UN. It consists of fifteen members, and five of these members are permanent members: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, the People’s Republic of China, and the Russian Federation, are also referred to as the P5. Unlike the other UN committees, single clauses are debated at a single time in the UNSC, rather than submitting complete resolutions. In this year’s TTMUN, the topics chosen are “The situation in Afghanistan” which refers to the ongoing tension in Afghanistan within certain extremist and terrorist groups, and “Peacemaking in Yemen” which refers to the ongoing civil war in Yemen.
